taharielToday's rec is a Temeraire fic that, instead of focussing on the boys (whom I love dearly), instead looks at Jane Roland and her daughter, and the way their masculine lives change the way they act towards each other and the world. It's a thoughtful piece, without being too internal, and really fleshes out that aspect of the Temeraire universe.
Afternoon's Liberty by Penknife. Extract: Captain and not Mama; well, they're in public, so it's best to be discreet. It's possible too that at Emily's age Captain is the more exalted title.
