I'm going to be an orthoptician.
Went to University of Liverpool as you should know from my previous post and listened to what they had to say, and it sounds fantastic. Orthoptics is less money and more work - as in, it's a 38-week university year and then half the holidays go on work placements around the British Isles - but it's 90% working with kids, a lot of whom will have learning difficulties or autism or things like that. I mean, orthopticians routinely stop people from going blind. That rules. I talked to the admissions tutor and she intimated too that she'll probably take me with the grades I've got now, whether my grades improve from January or not.
Also, studying for orthoptics means that my tuition fees are paid for by the NHS, I get an NHS bursary of about £2700 for accomodation and living and stuff, plus I'll probably get the maximum loan amount and grant amount because Dad is currently unemployed. So this year at least I may be fully funded without us having to pay out. So it all looks good - I love the city, liked the halls, love the course. Brilliant ^-^
