taharielToday was a looooong day. Not that I did much, but - for those who know about my amorphous dread of these situations - you should understand when I say it was my family gathering.
It actually wasn't all that bad. I know some people disapprove of my antipathy for my Grandma, but I managed to avoid her most of the time and so I was fine. We held it in Warwick, which is pretty central for all of us - six groups, spread over the country, and this is just my Mum's side of the family. Most of them went yesterday or Friday night and stayed over, boring each other silly, but we just went for the lunch today, which was very good.
So, news of interest: my cousin Daniel, who is in Iraq right now, apparently has a job with limited danger, sitting in an office waiting for a phone to ring, only to have someone else run in and pick it up instead. Occasionally he guards convoys, suppressing enemy fire when necessary, but mostly he's not in the danger spots, so I'm relieved. I /did/ worry about him. Also, apparently he and his girlfriend Letty are going to get engaged at Christmas, so we should have that coming up. It's funny because Auntie Ros dislikes Letty for the same reason as Grandma dislikes Auntie Ros - suspicion of money-grubbing etc. It's ridiculous about Auntie Ros, but I've never met Letty, so I don't know.
Granddad wrote a poem about his children which almost made him, me and Lucy cry when he got to Mum, but it was very nice. Apparently the rest of us will get verses at the next gathering ^-^
I gave my Grandparents a copy of 'In the Green', my short story, for reasons even I'm not sure of. I think they'll be interested, anyway. (Or at least I hope they will!)
I think that's most of what I thought about saying... I won't be online tonight, I don't think, because I'm going to play FFXI with Susan on her well-earned comic break. Yay ^-^
