Aug. 21st, 2005 08:22 pmAMY'S GOALS FOR THE NEXT YEAR:
1) Make it out alive!
2) Get to be more confident in myself as a person
3) Stop saying dumb stuff all the time without thinking about it
4) Grow up a bit
5) Get better at writing
Today I was talking to Jenny and she asked me how AyaCon was, and this is the only way I could think of to describe it in writing:
WHEEEEEEEEEE!
It was so fun! I dressed up and bought loads of stuff and watched a little anime and bought loads of stuff and met really nice people and bought loads of stuff...
(Yes, I bought a lot of stuff! Mostly manga.)
Eventually I may post some of the cosplay photos I took there, but for now... I'm going to review the stuff I bought! Yay! (Drumroll please!)
Manga
Full Moon wo Sagashite, volume 1: Soooooo pretty and cute, but it moves so much faster than the anime (which I watched first), my head was spinning *-*;; But as always Arina Tanemura's art is simply fantastic, and I still love the story even though it's dumb! (A 12-year-old girl who has always desperately wanted to be a singer has throat cancer and will die in a year if she doesn't have an operation, but refuses because then she won't be able to sing. She wants to do an audition, but her Grandma (her parents are dead) would never let her. Then she meets these Shinigami (angels of death) who agree to help her achieve her dream if she goes quietly at the end of her year. That's the basic gist. Lots of magical hijinks!)
MeriPuri, volume 1: WAAAAAAAIIIIII~ This is the cutest thing ever! The art is gorgeous, and the premise is really fun, and Aram is so cute! I want more right now! The story is that Airi, a 16-year-old girl, has a mirror that is a family heirloom that she carries everywhere with her; what she doesn't know is that it's a portal to a magical land, and when she loses it briefly, a ten-year-old Prince (Aram) comes through to escape from his bad older brother. His brother has cast a spell on him that means he grows older in the dark, so when in the dark he gets really tall and handsome but is still like a ten-year-old inside (and really sweet!) Airi is really obsessed with finding her soul mate and getting married and having a lovely married life, she doesn't realise how perfect Aram is (even though he's ten, I know)... It's so lovely *sigh* I wanna draw like that... (I wanna draw at all...)
Fushigi Yugi, volume 15: I still love Tamahome... and all the others. Yuu Watase rocks, she is the Queen of Shoujo manga! Not too much more of this to go, I think one book...
Brother, volume 1: Feel the step-brother-on-step-brother love (laughs) It's sweet and hot at the same time, with nice art and a nice plot. I love 'forbidden love' stories (which is probably why I like yaoi and shounen ai so much) so this is right up my street. It's independently published, which I think is great for the industry (and for me, as now I get to read it!)
Fullmetal Alchemist, volume 2: Another one which is moving so much faster than the anime, which I also watched first. And the timing of events is slightly different - things are happening in the 'present' that in the anime happened in the 'past'. The art isn't so good either, but it's FMA! Of course I love it!
Hands Off!, volume 3: This is a great 'psychic boys' story, in which two of the three lead characters (they're cousins) are so definitely shounen-ai'ing each other though apparently it's totally platonic... I love the angst and the characters and the weird way that the short, cute male main character always gets kidnapped by weirdos yet is still testosterone-driven (laugh)
Land of the Blindfolded, volume 4: I love this story! It was sort of what set me off on psychometry, to be honest. A beautiful romance between a girl who can sometimes see the future when she touches people or things and a boy who can always see the past when he touches things, plus their other male friend who also loves the girl and can see the future. It's more about the romance, though, which is lovely, and the art is be-au-ti-ful...
Duck Prince, volume 1: I bought this from the Bring-and-Buy for £2, and it's lovely! It's about an 'ugly duckling', a nerdy guy who is very short and ugly but who is granted a wish by a magician who was turned into a dog that belongs to the girl he has a crush on when he is hit by a car trying to save it, and when he wakes up after a year in a coma he's beautiful (it's really funny!)
Planet Ladder, volume 7: Finally! The last volume, after almost two years since the last! It's pretty and strange and it all twists weirdly at the end so you get surprised ^-^ And she falls in love! Yay! (And not with her long-lost brother, more yay!)
Genshiken, volume 2: This is a really funny manga (now an anime) about otakus and otaku culture in Japan (for those not in the know, an otaku is an obsessive anime/manga/game fan.) So true, which of course is why it's funny!
Tokyo Babylon, volume 7: No, Seishiro! Don't do it! You really love Subaru! (cries) It's so sad! It turns out he wasn't in love with him at all and tries to kill him! It's by CLAMP, so you know it's good, and I knew what was going to happen (they reappear in X:1999), but I was still so sad :(
I think that's all of it. I may have forgotten some, I don't know. I bought a lot of manga, basically ^-^
The only DVD I've watched so far is Witch Hunter Robin, volume 1: IT ROXORS! *has a happy fit* I decided on the spot to cosplay as Robin next year, she rules! The animation is great, as is the story and the soundtrack... basically, Robin belongs to a secret organisation run by priests called SOLOMON, and they hunt down Witches, people with dangerous supernatural powers. She is a Craft-User, and can control fire. (I'm not sure what the difference is between her and the witches, but just go with the flow, people!) Also she has a crush on Amon, her supposed-to-be-partner and boss. He's really quiet and stoic, and really cool ^-^
I also bought: two doujinshi, four pencil boards, lots of badges, a sew-on Stargate SG-1 patch (because it was cool... it's the same as I got for Jenny a coupla years back...), and some other random stuff. (Like the FMA ring I'm wearing, with the symbol on it really little...)
