Sep. 1st, 2005 07:13 pmWent to the Job Agency today to get signed up so I can hopefully get some long-term temp contracts for office-work. Told them about my previous experience, etc, that I'm smart and can pick stuff up very quickly because I'm smart etc. Here's to hoping I get a job soon :)
Today I also had a bit of a migraine, so I had a sleep for a while and now I feel better. I've got a vampire short story in my head now (I finished the other one, and lots of online magazines seem to want vampire type stories, so...)
It's quite scary to contemplate actually sending one off now, to be honest. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but it's always been quite remote, you know? Eventually sending off my manuscript to be judged, and having it matter what somebody thinks of it, because here they might like it or they might not but whether they do or not changes whether I've succeeded, you see? With 'free' fiction it doesn't matter one bit, really, other than your ego being a little deflated. This time it's business as well as your baby being chucked out of the window at you, rather the worse for wear. It's the same with short stories as it would be for a novel - it's tough!
Anyone who thinks they'd like to make some money and maybe do the short story thing with me is more than welcome, I've got quite a few links to fantasy/sci-fi/horror mags that take stuff like that. It could be fun getting rejection letters together - on my writing board, Forward Motion, there's a competition to see who gets the most in a year ^-^
