So I am gearing up for another evening of wrangling Everyday Love in Stockholm into submission, and instead of writing I am going to do this meme which I have stolen from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] rubynye! Then I guess I better do some writing ¬-¬

Procrastination is the best possible use of time I am sure you will agree )
tahariel: (Retard oh no)
This sounded pretty fun, so I decided to give it a go! Just a warning - NSFW as I did end up swearing (those who know me will be split into two camps: either 'not surprised' or 'Amy SWORE?!' I am a mystery wrapped in an enigma, people. And modest, too.)

Say These Words: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting Image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Memo
tahariel: (Harry Potter - Travelling)
Hi guys! I'm in San Diego! I know, I know, what am I doing here on the internet? OH WELL. Today I went for a walk and ended up being out for seven hours shopping and wandering. I also got free movie tickets for buying DVDs, so I went to see The Last Airbender.

I am a huge fan of the original show. This was a trainwreck. )

A link: This is a warning from [livejournal.com profile] emigree to women using lj about a total creep who is targeting young women. You do need to read this.

[livejournal.com profile] krazykipper's post reminded me White Collar started again today and I totally forgot and I could have watched it on TV. Now I'm trying to download it but the internet here is sooooo slooooow. Not sure I'm gonna make it. DAMN.

I updated my story thing so it's got all the material up to where I am now, if anyone's interested?

Tomorrow I'm going to go to Balboa park and wander the museums :) And maybe find an internet cafe to see if I can get that White Collar episode.

01. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
02. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
03. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Click on the image to see it bigger.

This is my current wallpaper, which I made myself about... six months ago? It's a blend of a background that I loved, an image I loved - of a girl taking a giraffe for a walk in a city! - and a lyric brush someone else made but that I really like. The 'theme' for this piece was 'determined individuality', reinforced by both the surreal image and the lyrics. I really like the colours and the composition of it, which is why it's my current wallpaper :)

However, I'm considering making a new one - Star Trek! It'll have to be good, though, I'm pretty attached to this one.

Title: Asymptote

Fandom: STXI

Pairing: Kirk/Spock

Word Count: 5974

Rating: R / NC-17, for language and sex

Warnings: None

Author's Notes: I hadn't written anything in months when I started this, and haven't written fanfic in years. But somehow Star Trek has got me going again - which I'm totally loving, because I really missed writing! Thanks to everyone who's left such lovely comments on the original meme thread (here). Feedback is love! Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] kirkspock.

ETA: You can now also find this fic at the Archive of Our Own and at the automated Kirk/Spock archive, once it's been approved, thanks to kind prompting from [livejournal.com profile] awarrington.

Summary: Prompt from [livejournal.com profile] st_xi_kink: Prompt: K/S. So, this idea kind of hit me out of nowhere. Pretty much following the tradition of aliens-made-them-do-it [only kind of inverted], in which Kirk and Spock end up at a planet where they are not allowed to touch each other [due to religious issues, politeness protocol, whatever].

This makes Spock realize how many times a day, Kirk had been touching him, [his shoulder, pat at the back, random hugs, etc] and how much he had been enjoying those touches. In fact, Spock is a bit annoyed [angry!] that he's been deprived his daily ration of Kirk-touch. And when he tries to sneak in a touch, however subtle, the aliens get in the way. [Damn aliens!] This pretty much pushes his control to the limit.

Then when the whole ordeal is over, Spock jumps Kirk in the conference room as soon as the briefing on the away mission is over because he cannot wait! \o/

Bonus: Kirk and Spock aren't together yet, so first time.

Double bonus: Kirk has no clue what the hell going on with Spock until the jumping happens.

Anticipation was not an emotion Spock had intended to allow himself to feel. )

...somehow, despite the fact that in general I super-despise mpreg, I am writing one anyway. Why, kink meme, why?

My other fic - less embarrassing in many ways - is still ongoing and I'm actually pretty pleased with it. The fact that I'm writing again at all, actually, I'm really pleased about. Clearly the kink meme has given me back my mojo.
tahariel: (Star Trekkin')
If anyone is interested, I'm in the process of writing/posting a Star Trek XI fic for the kink meme over at [livejournal.com profile] st_xi_kink. Here's the prompt (it's loooong but awesome!):

It's not finished yet, but I'm posting a bit a day, so fairly regular updates :)

Gacked from Ionaonie:

Take one sentence from every work in progress on your computer I might not have kept to one sentence exactly either. Um. At all. Maybe more like one short paragraph? *FAILS*

I included old novel projects, since I'll look at them occasionally and poke them with a stick to see if they're well and truly dead yet or not. )

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now,(even if we don't speak often or ever) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me.

It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph in your LJ and see what your friends come up with.
tahariel: (Me sci-fi-ish)
You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out :)

1. First Name: Amy

2. Age: 21

3. Location: Currently at home in Buckinghamshire, near High Wycombe, but as of this Sunday I'm going to be in Birmingham for four weeks for another hospital placement.

4. Occupation: Poking small children in the eye for their own good. What do you mean that's not what I'm supposed to be doing? (Orthoptics student at Uni of Liverpool)

5. Partner?: Nope :(

6. Kids: Not yet!

7. Brothers/Sisters: My younger sister, Lucy, who finishes her A-level exams tomorrow afternoon. She's been ill for the last four years, so this is a major achievement and I'm very proud of her :)

8. Pets: Jasper, our Cocker Spaniel, and Fudge, the guinea pig we got from the RSPCA to keep the other guinea pig company, who promptly (well, six months later) died, leaving us with just the one gpig again. He's just been castrated so he can go live with our friends who have girl gpigs, so he won't be lonely any more. Trust me, he's lost about half his body weight, he should be grateful. Those things were bloody massive.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:

* I'm nearly finished writing the first draft of my novel.
* I'm about to go off on placement to a place that is apparently evil, breaks your spirit and makes you cry.
* My Dad is getting married later this year which involves some complicated logistics for all of us, house-selling-wise, manner-of-living-wise etc. I'm not 100% happy with all of Dad's plans, but then, I don't really live at home now, so.

10. Where and for what did you go to school for?: University of Liverpool, Orthoptics.

11. Parents?: My dad is an engineer and he's constantly moody and in pain, he also never gives compliments. My mum is a cleaner and tends to be horribly depressive and stressed about everything.

12. Who are some of your closest friends?: Laura-Hat, Rupert, Kaneen, Sazzy, Other-Nick. Many others, those are just top of the 'people I miss' list at the moment.

I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] ionaonie. Thanks honey! And also, thank you so much for my virtual rose! I love you too :)

So, now I am charged with "picking 15 people and give them the "you make my day" award. If you're picked, you are charged with picking 15 of your own."

I'm not sure I have fifteen, or at least not fifteen who use lj, but I'll give it a go :)

Meme from musesfool via dacro. Sounded like fun :D

1. Go to the Wikipedia home page and click random article. That is your band's name.
2. Click random article again; that is your album name.
3. Click random article 15 more times; those are the tracks on your album.

Band name: House of Dlamini

Album name: White Shroud Poems

1 Photopsin
2 Gloucestershire Echo
3 2003-04 World Sevens Series
4 HMS Juno (F46)
5 Lee Won-Hee
6 Mike Maksudian
7 Eritrean-Ethiopian War
8 Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
9 A Gothic-Industrial Tribute to The Smashing Pumpkins
10 Bill Beveridge
11 Raw Velvet
12 Minnesota State Highway 1
13 Pasto
14 Eendrachtsplein (subwaystation)
15 Paragon

Governor General's Caring Canadian Award, a heartbreaking technofunk anthem about the shallowness of today's governments and their superficial natures, was a break-out hit for House of Dlamini, bringing them to instant stardom. But it was Eendrachtsplein (subwaystation) that fixed them in the public's eye as a band to watch, with its haunting melodies and brisk electric-accordion solos.

(So I may have cheated a little bit and kept hitting the random button. But I kept getting names of actual people! And then places in Poland! And then railway stations! So it was totally justified.)

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] ionaonie

Once tagged by this entry, the assignment is to write a blog entry of some kind with six random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends and tag them; no tag backs. This explanation should be included.

...I tend not to do the tagging parts of these things, mostly because nobody can ever be bothered to do them. So do it if you feel like it.

1. I call Wilson from House, M.D. 'Wifey', because he acts like House's wife. Therefore, it is quite normal for you to hear me saying to House, 'Go talk to Wifey!' (because I <3 Robert Sean Leonard.)

2. When I get really into doing something I enjoy, I forget to go to the loo until somebody comes and knocks on my door and distracts me. Then I abandon them in my room so that I can go.

3. I'm making a scrapbook with pictures and quotes from The Mourning Tree, my novel project, because I bought a little kit in the US and wanted to play. It actually looks quite neat.

4. When I was three I melted my plastic Early Learning Centre whistle in our gas fire. Mum and Dad had to buy me a new one. (It was sacrificed in the name of science! I swear!)

5. I spend more time talking to my laptop trying to persuade it to do what I want than I spend talking to the girl who lives next door to me.

6. Romantic scenes between characters I like make me squeal like a little girl, even if I'm not alone, and clutch my hands to my chest like I can't contain myself. Romantic scenes for a pairing that I can't stand have me swearing and making death threats towards the disliked party. (Ugh, House/Cameron? Puh-leese.)
